(wo)Men at Work - Part 1

ok ok, so I haven't actually been contributing much to the downstairs project as I had anticipated, but I did get to deliver the first blow to the wall we knocked down. That, combined with my photography responsibilities, has been enough I suppose For nostalgia's sake, lets take a look at the downstairs when we first moved in and progress through the mess...

that's all for tonight's sneak peek! there are still a lot of little touch ups to be done, but thanks to greg and daniel, the tough part is done. part 2 will be posted sometime next week!

Trip to ikea = new curtains!

The previous owners of our place were kind enough to leave behind their window treatments. I think they must have been going for the mustard-and-ketchup look with too-tiny red curtains on our huge sliding glass door, with the yellow walls. See exhibit A: Before (unfortunately I forgot to snap a shot before painting) ...here is the before color, and our paint samples

A trip to ikea and a gallon of paint later and our problem is solved. I'm not exactly sure which way I prefer the curtains yet. I am leaning toward #1, Daniel prefers #2, and #3 is out. I love ikea.

Birdfeeder bonanza

A few months ago, Daniel decided that we needed a birdfeeder. By needed, I mean the can't-live-without-for-another-day kind of need. We made a trip to Menards in search of the perfect one... didn't want it to look like a little house, not too big, not too small, etc etc. We ended up picking one that is pretty much a mesh tube with a lid on top and and a ledge on the bottom. Because of the open-mesh style, we had to get sunflower seed instead of regular bird seed because the regular stuff just falls through. Turns out the sunflower seed either comes in packs similar to what you would eat at a baseball game, or a 50-lb bag. Guess which one we *had* to have? Yes, we've had a 50lb bag of seed sitting in our garage for the last couple of months.

The weather was nice last night and I decided to fill our feeder for the first time in a few weeks. When we were sitting on the couch, I looked out the window and discovered the creature who has been scaring all the birds away...
