No Joe!

Can I start off by saying that I went to GI Joe expecting things to explode. I'm not expecting intellectual stimulation, acting prowess, or a scintillating story line. Unlike many others I thought that Transformers 2 was a decent movie. It gave me what I was looking for (plus a little extra a la Megan Fox). The acting there wasn't superb, or even good, however it entertained me, which is why I go to movies.

That being said, GI Joe sucked. Royally.

Each and every member of the cast delivers a stunningly bad performance in this movie. The poor line readings combined with the even poorer lines resulted in a production that made me uncomfotable in the theater. Have you ever been in conversation with a group of people and had someone say something that just makes you feel bad for them? If not, I recommend the movie, you'll get plenty of it.

The action sequences are exciting and do capture the attention, however I kept finding myself wondering why the guys in the bionic suits that can leap over cars and through moving trains while dodging 6 rockets fired from the vehicle the are in pursuit of could not manage to CATCH said vehicle. It does finally become clear that all of the augmented reality computer mumbo jumbo blocking Channing Tatum's boyish good looks is what turns out to be the problem.

Don't see this movie, just don't.

P.S. I won't ruin the 'plot twist' at the end of the movie, it was about as painful as watching HER BROTHER IS THE BAD GUY HE DIDN'T REALLY DIE LIKE THEY SHOW IN THE FLASHBACK

Our Approach for Purchases

"we needed to implement a spending freeze"

An interesting phrase to come from my lovely wife. She is right, just to be clear there was a spending freeze. We attempted not to buy anything extraneous. However, I take issue with 'we'. If I'm not mistaken we would imply that my wife and I made this decision together. However, this my friends, is not the case.

In early July I made the statement that we would not be spending further, to help pay down our lovely accumulated debt of the past month or so (actually it is more of a savings recovery, we don't carry month-to-month revolving debt). I just wanted to be sure to make that clear.

Once out of July it was a full on spending spree I'd like to add. Moderate to large purchases of supurfulous nature thus far in August:

  1. Purse
  2. Paint and Painting Supplies (a post will follow at a later date)
  3. A website (orofino.me)

As we came into this month it was clear that there were a number of things that we wanted to buy, as such we needed to determine WHICH of those items to purchase. As such we listed out the items and threw them into a spreadsheet on google docs. This allowed us to see relative expense along with the priority for each item for eachother.

You can see that here, it is a very simple thing, but it allows us to track some of the 'extra' expenses.

As Jordan and I settle into this whole new marriage thing we continue to work out how best we want to handle the finance and spending stuff. I'll talk at some later point about our saving strategy and how we are saving for retirement, children, our travel ambitions, paying down school loans, etc etc.

On a side note, I find google docs to be a most wonderful resource for Jordan and I. We've got 3 laptops, a desktop, and two iPhones to our name. Having access to our docs regardless of which machine we are at or phone we are using makes things VERY easy. Not to mention I can add to the docs anywhere any time.

New Purse

I admit it... I have a "thing" for etsy. You can find just about anything and the prices are usually pretty reasonable. I have been eyeballing a new purse since the beginning of July, but it was July. Daniel and I decided that we needed to implement a spending freeze for the month of July because between moving, the wedding, and the honeymoon... it was starting to add up. I have needed a new purse for ooooh, lets call it two years. My purse is a ratty, filthy bag that is falling apart, but I could never part with it because it was the perfect shape. I have been casually looking for a new one on and off since last winter. The criteria? No leather, no bling, no words all over it, less than $50, not too huge, not too small, and not ugly. The hubs took note when I first mentioned said etsy purse, and it arrived on our doorstep last week. *pause for awwwwwwww!* Here she is in all her glory...
